Costa Rica president-elect Laura Chinchilla

Presidential election in Costa Rica witnessed a surprise win as Laura Chinchilla was elected for president becoming the first female president for the country; Chinchilla who currently serve as Vice President won election after gaining as much as 47 percent of unassailable votes in election.

Chinchilla stated upon victory “Thank You, Costa Rica” adding that “It’s certainly a moment of happiness, but above all humility…I won’t betray that confidence”. Chinchilla rules the National Liberation Party where the election campaign focused upon maintaining President Oscal Arias’s free market policies.
